SMART TARGET FIELD – FOUR YEARS AND GOING STRONG

Shooter’s Golf in Wexford, PA, operates one of the most successful golf entertainment driving ranges with a Smart Target Interactive Target Field.

Shooters began as a modest. two-story driving range nestled in a tree-surrounded ravine, with banked walls and lots of water flowing down the middle of the range.. Its key advantage was that it didn’t need netting since all the errant balls eventually hit a tree. By having the local high school kids come out once a week on Saturday mornings, they were able to help local kids while maintaining their very green and low-tech solution for ball retrieval.

As our second Smart Target field, it was our first to utilize synthetic turf, resulting in a vastly more organic and green grass appearance. In the beginning the greatest challenge was reseeding and protecting the field through the first winter, while also being able to shag balls and keep up with the increased ball consumption.

Today, Shooters has blossomed. With all the grass grown in and added fringe coloring, the field exceeds expectations. In their second phase, two front green targets were installed to give players a chance for a hole-in-one. This program, where winners get listed on the Hole in One wall and an entry into the annual championships, has been highly effective in creating loyalty.

With the increased impact came the need for two side-hitting areas. One side sports a great social area with tables and gaming. The other side is additional hitting bays for practice.

Of course, the best part of Shooters is the see-through bar design that lets folks watch the field while inside socializing at their half-moon bar. Brilliant design that connects the inside with the outside.
